Now, I do surf the gnar whenever I go to California, but now I might not go out as far. People always here the stat that more people die from coconuts falling on their head than shark attacks and think they are cool. Though the shark attack percentages are very low, there is still a small % chance you can get attacked. I heard that sharks see your legs fluttering in the water and confuse all the splashing for a fish jumping in and out of water thus go and attack it. But, I probably won't be going to Cali for a few months so once I do, I will probably have forgotten about this and will be out there riding the waves. xD Article

You hear from strange people. And it's actually a lot less likely for you to be confused for a fish if you're just swimming through the water. On a surf-board, an attack is much more likely. Usually such an occurrence as an attack on a swimmer is just the shark investigating the object. This being done by biting and shaking it momentarily. This can end up a nip, or you can end up losing half your blood (te extreme case, of course). But deaths from such are rare.

lol Well that'll help, telling him if he surfs, he's more likely to get bitten than swimming xD

We get shark attacks once in a while. But it's not that big of a deal. More people die from bees each year I've heard.
