My favorite part of the picture is how you made the stars. Thats just amazing look, plus its so real. Great job at it. In my opinion, I personally think you need a little more blacker color(s) in it for the realness of the space.

It's my first go. The stars are sparkle brushes.

For a first its not too bad but I've seen better. The background seems kinda plain for space, even though space is pretty plain. Go search around for professional space scenes and just take in the image. Its almost never a planet and stars. Theres things in the background that are blurred and darkened to add depth and other effects. One of your big downfalls is the quality. The planets are very choppy, and planets are usually round and smooth unless its got a ring or some sort of explosion. The texture done is alright, but it can use some work. When doing the effect of only seeing a bit of the planet try not to cut it so quick, give it more room and don't cut it to where you know exactly where it stops at a first look. The stars are pretty big. Most stars are pretty much just a 3 px brush and sometimes smaller just dotted in random places. It adds a nice effect when some are dulled and some are quite bright. Your lacking a border and text. Most space scenes have a thick bottom and top border and a skinny side border. The text will go on the bottom one and will be something relating to space on a nice font. Nothing like Star Trek or Starwars. Something like Tahoma, Arial, etc. Nice job for a first, I say its about a 5/10.
