edit your url to this
your-board.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=login&NOHEADERS=1

Type in your username and password, click login.

then IGNORE THE PAGE CONTENT

then edit the url to this
your-board.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=headersfooters&NOHEADERS=1

You will now be able to modify your headers and footers.
copy codes to notepad before removing them, then go and recheck if the code is correct.

Follow those instuctions.

NOTE: Where it says "http://your-board.proboards.com" change it to the url of your forum, BUT DO NOT change any other part of the URL.

Let me know if it works this time.

Yes, modifying your post is the preferred method .

You don't need to give me you proboards URL if you don't want to, but generally it helps when it comes to troubleshooting.
